"recursive" URLs were never considered in the URL parser:

bash$ /usr/local/squid/bin/client -h marikit -p 8888 http://master.cache.iphil.net:8888/http://www.iphil.net

HTTP/1.0 400 Cache Detected Error
Content-type: text/html

<HTML><HEAD>
<TITLE>ERROR: The requested URL could not be retrieved</TITLE>
</HEAD><BODY>
<H1>ERROR</H1>
<H2>The requested URL could not be retrieved</H2>
<HR>

While trying to retrieve the URL:

The following error was encountered:
<UL>
<LI><STRONG>Invalid URL syntax</STRONG>
</UL>

    Please double check it, or ask for assistance.
