swap.state and database engines

Has anyone looked into using a database engine (ie sleepycat db 3..) to manage the in-memory swap.state (with a huge in-memory
cache)? Too hard/not worth it/tried and it blew chunks?

I ask because the huge overhead of memory for the swap.state would be (potentially) much allieviated if it could be run off-disk.

Thoughts?
