What you SHOULD do it you start rolling out the code in production, is
to create a branch for your "production" version. To this branch you
then only apply changes which you see relevant for your production
system.

In the pipeline I have development of scripts for selective back-porting
of changes. Having more people doing such things would help the
development of these tools and methods.
