Hm.. 3 "standard" make programs on Sun Solaris 8.. what a mess.

   /usr/ccs/bin/make
   /usr/xpg4/bin/make
   gmake (GNU make)

by historical reasons people are most likely to use the
/usr/ccs/bin/make version I'd say.

Nope. I used the already bootstrapped HEAD tarball.

As I said, compiling with the GNU toolchain works just fine.
