A small point:

log files are of most use in analyzing theoretical potential hit rates,
but replaying them will not help because objects will have moved/been
changed etc.

Polygraph can be setup to mimic the potential hit rates a web site or
sites give out, and then used to see what squid achieves.

If I recall correclty Alex and co. have done quite a bit of work to make
Polygraph loads similar to the web today.
