I don't have much of an opinion. If it works and does not disturb
other parts when not compiled then I am fine.

What goes on within a fs/repl/helper is not my concern unless I need
to use named fs/repl/helper.

If you find that there might be problems maintaining a single
codebase of "COSS" for both UNIX and NT, then I recommend to split it
in two, or at least separate source files within the store
implementation for the UNIX/NT dependent parts.
