1. Amount of memory in relation to your cache size. See the Squid FAQ.

2. Type of cache_dir. If above about 30 request/s then you need to use
aufs or diskd.

3. Some TCP/IP tunings may be required if you have a request load above
about 150 request/s (or ca 10 Mbps of traffic).
