peerGetSomeNeighborReplies()?

Hello,
I have confusion in peerGetSomeNeighborReplies() function in peer_select.c

function peerCheckNetdbDirect() is called in peerSelectFoo() to check whether it is possible to fwd request to origin server directly....(ps->direct = DIRECT_YES)

this is fine

but is called again from peerGetSomeNeighborReplies()?

is it necessary to call it agiain here?
is it serve some special purpose?
