HTTP_NOT_FOUND issue

i am using squid 2.5 stable1
When squid encounters error HTTP_NOT_FOUND while serving client
request, it sends cleint no error page and cleint gets broswer specific error page.

for all other case squid sends error pages
can any one tell me why squid is handling case HTTP_NOT_FOUND
differently and how it is hanlded?

does DOCTYPE play role when error pages comes to browser? squid not set DOCTYPE information.
