group/libgroup.la is no magic wand which solves the library namespace.
On many platforms this is simply translated into -Lgroup/ -lgroup
solving nothing...

On some platforms it expands into a direct reference of group/libgroup.a
which works when linking statically.

On dynamic linking it has the same problem as when using -lgroup.. the
search path is not library specific, just expanded to the areas
mentioned by your link scripts..
