That's because there's no best choice or clear recommendation. Squid
will perform best on any modern unix-like operating system.
Probably the fastest setuo could be obtained on a top-of-the-line AIX
Power6 box. But those things cost millions of euros :-)

You can probably get the best bang-for-buck on Intel boxes running
Linux (any distribution) or FreeBSD. Which is in essence what the wiki
article says :-)
