We bundle Squid with unit-tets for specific feature testing at build time.

Other than that, we depend on generic HTTP software testing tools such
as Polygraph, Co-Advisor, AacheBench to test operational features. From
your description you want to look at those software testing tools.

We also use generic software testing tools like valgrind, oprofile and
static analysist tools to test low level functionality performance
details. But this seems to be a much lower level than what you are
looking for.
