Defenitely not.

No, only one ftpget process should hang around waiting for new ftp
requests, and no ftpget process should hog the CPU...

What system do you have?

Can you try running ftpget manually?

ftpget -h /tmp/result ftpserver.domain /pub/something I anonymous squid@
