prefetching using cache-server statistics

Dear Squiders

I'm interested in prefetching in current hierarchical caching system

based on a cache server statistics. We're operating a Root cache (

cache.kaist.ac.kr) with squid1.0beta17 in Korea.

What I try to do is :

Prefetch frequntly accessed objects when network is not crowded.

-I'm planning on using accee.log to decide what to prefetch.

But, I somewhat confused when anlayzing access.log.

*What squid writes in acess.log when we request TCP_EXPIRED object ?

        ex) just TCP_EXPIRED?

*And, then what else squid do?

Does it send IF_MODFIED_SINCE to the original server?

If it is true, then does it write anything in access.log?

P.S: don't you have any plan to make a FAQ? I can help you with my pleasure!
