unfortunately, since the time when the spec said that the Host header
shouldn't contain the port number (which is sensible, it doesn't need
to), Netscape released v2 of their browser that put it there. Whether
because of the large installed base or not, the draft changed and now
the port number can be present.

I think it's probably best to play safe and assume that it can be there
even when the default port 80 is being used.
