Performance problems

Ok here's the scoop.

We are running v1.1.8 of squid. With big time performance
problems. We are trying to run a 7 gigabyte cache, with quite a lot of
requests per second. The server has a 100 megabit ethernet connection
running on a DEC Alpha using Digital Unix 4.0

This machine is in production, will upgrading to version 1.1.10
help me out?? We believe that it is running out of swap space, so
therefore there is a memory leak somewhere.

        Can someone help??
