The host OS for a Squid is a personal choice, some people are satisfied
with FreeBSD, some with Linux, some with SunOS, etc... If the
performance of your Linux machine is satisfying for you, what reasons
you have to change from host OS? If ain't broke, ain't fix (If the
reason is to experiment with other OS, go for it, but, don't experiment
in a production machine).

I have heard some interesting things about FreeBSD. (During this summer
I plan to make some experiments with FreeBSD). Some of the busyest hosts
on Internet are made with FreeBSD, It shouldn't be bad.
