use of inside_firewall

G'day all,
I'm running a proxy which is located behind a firewall. THe only way
to obtain http access through the firewall is via one of 2 proxies using
different IPs.

What I wish to do is have one single parent through which all of my
requests are redirected. In order to do this I set

cache_host XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX parent 3128 0 no-query default

within my squid.conf file. (where is XXX... is the IP address of the proxy
I can
use to get through the firewall).

However this does not work. I have since managed to obtain access by
setting the

inside_firewall none

within the conf file. This is meant to force all requests to go through a
single
parent proxy. While this works, I am intersted to know why I HAVE to set
the inside_firewall
variable to none in order to gain access. This means I cannot theoretically
set the inside_firewall
variable to anything else in order to allow for direct access to sites
within the firewall.

Any comments appreciated.
