This is actually a netscape problem... the whole idea is a
silly one actually.... people should know to type in 'www.apple.com'.

I think the way Netscape does this is by a default auto-proxy script -
 it can be used for more than proxies as its just a javascript that's
run for every URL. I haven't looked at this though. Presumably when
you add a manual proxy, or a different autoproxy script it overrides
this function. Writing your own autoproxy script to behave in the
same way might do it.

Presumably a guide to doing it is on Netscape's site somewhere.
