Hi,
I have moved the last days from squid 1.1.21 to 1.2.18beta.
I have 2 main caches. Linux redhat-4.2, kernel 2.0.32, etc.
One has a UltraWide-Adaptec-SCSI-Adapter - the other single host bus.

Both systems were vary stable for mor than 3 moth. The 1.2.18 works well
but the UltraWide system crashs with i/o problems.

Now I read 1.2 has done much for optimizing i/o. Is it possible that
1.1 doesn't come in the critical area of my SCSI equipment but 1.2 do?

The SCSI:
cat /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0 |more
Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 4.1.1/3.2.1
Compile Options:
  AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY : 15
  AIC7XXX_TAGGED_QUEUEING: Disabled
  AIC7XXX_PAGE_ENABLE : Disabled
  AIC7XXX_PROC_STATS : Enabled

Adapter Configuration:
SCSI Adapter: Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter
                         (AIC-788x chipset)
               Host Bus: Wide
                Base IO: 0x9000
         Base IO Memory: 0xe4000000
                    IRQ: 11
                   SCBs: Used 6, HW 16, Page 16
             Interrupts: 120955
          Serial EEPROM: True
   Extended Translation: Enabled
         SCSI Bus Reset: Enabled
             Ultra SCSI: Enabled
Disconnect Enable Flags: 0xffff

In a next step I would disable Ultra ...
