The always_direct tag replaces local_domain in Squid 1.2. It's explained
in the squid.conf.default. The text below came from 1.2.beta20:

# TAG: always_direct
# Usage: always_direct allow|deny [!]aclname ...

# Here you can use ACL elements to specify requests which should
# ALWAYS be forwarded directly to origin servers. This option
