access control and statistics

hi,

is there some easy way to have access control for like 2500 users, i.e.
username/password, and an informational (graphic) way to interpret the
access logs? Background is, that our company doesn´t want to raise the
bandwidth, but instead have a psychological factor through having
user/pass access (huh, i´m watched;-)), and i need some decent way to
present the access statistics to my boss....
