I have managed to hack the redirect.c to output the http headers that are
passed with each request. This solves my problems.

I think I will have to live with a hacked version for ever. I don't
expect that this is a usefull feature in a general cache redirection
application. It may be a usefull feature in terms of an httpd
accellerator though.
