What the message means is that the sending web-server closed the
connection before replying, or closed the connection after sending the
object headers, but before sending the actual object to which the
headers refer.

The most common cause of this is that (for whatever reason) the
webserver at the host died, or if it was a CGI (most likely) the CGI
crashed and died before finishing what it was doing.

I'd bet on the latter case, usually. Some CGI's are not terribly robust
and may choke if they see request headers that they are unfamiliar with.
