Yes. In the Squid world this is called acceleration of HTTP requests.

Not using squid, but it is quite trivial to setup using other software.
The simplest setup is using some kind of TCP plug, but there exists
pathes to Linux that does things like this in the kernel as well (or is
it even part of Linux nowdays?).
