Transparent proxy and cache hierarchy

    I'm using Squid 1.1.22 with transparent proxy. I'd like to belong to
a cache hierarchy, but I read somewhere that both things are impossible
at the same time.
    Is that true?? Isn't there any way to belong to a cache hierarchy
using transparent proxy??.
