I'm not having any trouble with FDs on Linx, I used the filehand patch
that's on (in the patch section). With that and the
echos to the /proc/sys/kernel it works fine. The patch applied with a
nudge to the 2.0.36 preview kernel.

Bash's ulimit doesn't show up the increased FDs, but Squid does.
