A typo or error.

Bytes. I intended 64kbytes, I think I even specified it in my comment;
that's what I consider to be a decent web page with icons and graphics.
All values are in bytes.

What do you mean by 'doesn't work at all'?
Have you tried looking at the delay pool levels in the cachemgr?
Also, be aware that if your squid is passing through the file descriptors
in constant linear order with a constant starting point, one file descriptor
in a pool may 'hog' the traffic.
