You could run a small non-cacheing Squid on the router, or something
like that.

Hmm.. you got my mind going here on transparent proxying. Support for
persistent connections requires cooperation between the network
redirector and the cache, but the network redirector should not be
required to know all about the HTTP protocol.

I think I will make a new (and smaller + faster) version of transproxyd
combined with a small Squid 2 patch that addresses this issue. More on
this tomorrow.
