Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

My employer is a very happy user of Squid 1.1.20 on a modest system
(FreeBSD 2.2.5-RELEASE, 128 MB, P5 class processor).

The new version, 2.1PATCH2, performs very badly in comparison with 1.1.20
on this system. Pages appear to half load and then there is a wait for up
to a minute until the page is "done".
From a browser point of view both no cache and squid 1.1.20 get pages much
faster than 2.1.

Some details are

. no tweaking of the configure script
. same results with cache_mem 20 MB as 60 MB
. no parent cache (no ICP)
. no delay Pool use
. same results with or without NCSA auth (Web client is Apache).
. AFAIK (configure.status) shows no thread usage

Your comments will be gratefully received.

Thank you,

Yours sincerely

S Hopcroft
