        Make sure that you have the development system installed.
        If you have, and you don't have access to someone familiar
        with Unix, copy out the relevant portion of config.log and,
        if small enough post to the list (cut and paste it into the
        message, don't attach it). If you cannot safely trim the
        log, upload it to a public ftp or web site and post the URL.
        If you do trim it, retain an extra screenful at the beginning,
        in case you haven't worked out the true start of the significant
        part.

        I'd also suggest getting something that configures and builds
        easily, like gzip, and trying to build that.
