When I run squid -X I get the following messages:

1999/08/06 10:24:30| Performing DNS Tests...
1999/08/06 10:24:30| Successful DNS name lookup tests...
1999/08/06 10:24:30| helperOpenServers: Starting 5 'dnsserver' processes

1999/08/06 10:24:30| ipcCreate: PARENT: hello read test failed
1999/08/06 10:24:30| --> got
'hi%20there%0a1999/08/06%2010:24:30%7c%20ip'
1999/08/06 10:24:30| WARNING: Cannot run
'/local/etc/squid/bin/dnsserver' process.

If use RunCache to start squid the following appears in the log:

1999/08/06 10:44:55| ipcacheParse: Got <NULL> reply
1999/08/06 10:44:55| WARNING: dnsserver #1 (FD 6) exited

The result for the user is always:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for The cache was not able
to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.

Any ideas, anyone ???

PS: I did have compilation problems which I was able to kludge around
(see earlier message) I'm running on SunOS 4.1.4, and compiling with gcc
2.7.2.
