FATAL: Unknown cache_dir type '/var/spool/cache'

Hi there. I looked for this in the FAQ, didn't find it there...

I'm trying to get Squid up and running. I installed
squid-2.3.DEVEL2-1.i386.rpm, at the end of which I got the message:

"Creating Squid Cache Directories...
FATAL: Unknown cache_dir type '/var/spool/cache'

Squid Cache (Version 2.3.DEVEL2): Terminated abnormally.
CPU Usage: 0.010 seconds = 0.010 user + 0.000 sys
Maximum Resident Size: 0 KB
Page faults with physical i/o: 264
execution of script failed"

I had previously built it myself from source, but I got exactly the same
error when I ran 'squid -z', even though the cache_dir was set to a
different value (/usr/squid/cache). In both cases, I retried after doing
chmod a+rw on the cache dir, but same results.

What am I doing wrong?
