hmmm .. I am using slackware 4.0 and the Linux kernel is 2.2.6 (i think this
is the latest). How would I increase the file descriptors for squid ....
and inodes?... I'm used to administering linux but i think I'm new to file
descriptors and inodes ... because I never had problems with this before.

just to add another observation .... after the problem starts ... I can
still ping eth1 (172.16.12.251) .... but it seems not to respond to my
client's http request while connecting to 172.16.12.251:8085 ... but after a
while (maybe 5 minutes) .... it works fine again.

thanks again ... hope you can assist me with the descriptors ...
