squid and dante (free socks 4/5 daemon)

Environment
 Debian Potato (2.2)
 Linux 2.2.15pre5
 glibc 2.1.2 CVS as of 2000-01-26
 gcc 2.95.2 CVS as of 2000-01-16
 Squid 2.2.Stable5
 Dante 1.1.1
 
I'm not able to get squid working with dante. I tried:
   * socksify /usr/sbin/squid ... (like runsocks for NEC socks v4/v5)
   * compile squid with the -Dbind -DRbind, etc. suggested by dante
     and linking with -lsocksd
 
Has anyone gotten this combination to work?
