squid not running efficiently

i am running squid Transparent proxy-cache on

IBM netfinity 5000
redhat linux 6.1
squid 2.2STABLE4
cache size : 2 SCSI 4GIG disk
RAM : 512 MB

 squid.conf settings are
1> cache_mem 64 MB
2> memory_pools off
3> refesh_pattern . 0 50% 4320
4> avg_object_size 10 kb
5> first level cache directory 16
6> second level cache directory 256

    now the problem is after serving 500000 to 600000
http requests squid becones very slow ,avg no of
requests per day is aroung 100 to 150 thousend
    also in cachemanager manu->
    general run time info

its showing following things
   please see -> request send to unlinked ->i think
its too high
   also the median service time for tcp-miss -> around

4-5 seconds and its increasing gradually
   
   please suggest what could be the problem
