problem using authentication in ftp

Hi ...

I've tried to understand my problem using a default configuration and
the current config of my squid box.
When i use the url ftp://ftp@mydomain.com/, squid answers me a 401
ou a 403 code (depending on the configuration i use).

When the code 403 is returned (forbidden), i don't expect anything to
word.
But, when the code 401 (not authorized) is returned, nothing more happens.
I thought that my browser (ie5) should understand the 401, send me a box
where
i can enter the password, and my browser should send back an authentication
header.

Has anyone ever seen this issue ?

        Laurent.
