I have always found this statement kind of amusing. I have heard it a
lot, usually associated with the FFS 10% reservation. My view is that
5% is 5% (or 10% in the case of FFS), regardless of the size of the
disk you can only use 95% of the disk. It matters not that these days
that reservation may add up to more disk space than we used to dream
about having in the ``good old days''. I would have thought that
people would have been worried more about this on a 500Mbyte disk
since you want to squeeze every last byte out of the thing.

I suppose it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for
efficiency...
