Unused Memory?

Hello,

I analyzed my memory problem a bit more:

Memory usage for squid via mallinfo():
Total space in arena: 189269 KB
Ordinary blocks: 17074 KB 13322 blks
Small blocks: 0 KB 0 blks
Holding blocks: 176 KB 1 blks
        Free Small blocks: 0 KB
        Free Ordinary blocks: 172195 KB
Total in use: 17250 KB 9%
        Total free: 172195 KB 91%

This is after a run time of 3 Days. memory_pools is set to off. Why doesn't squid free the memory (which it marks as free internally) to the system?

I'm running squid-2.3stable2 on a linux-2.2.14-glibc2.1.2 system.

Thank you for any help.

MfG, P. Schindler
