Different proxies are for different purposes - squid can CACHE http/ftp
requests
NAT is transparent
SOCKS allows you create LISTENING sockets

Use all on one machine - squid for www/ftp, SOCKS for irc/napster/icq
whatever needs incoming connection, NAT for rest and you'll be 101%
satisfied
