bad file descriptor

hi all,

i always get a "bad file descriptor" message at random whenever i use
a redirector -- what causes this message to appear? i'm running
2.3stable2 on a freebsd 3.4-stable box with 256MB RAM and 2x8GB cache
disks. the cache/swap disks are mounted "rw,noatime" with softupdates.
