amazon -> www.amazon.com ?

Hello,
I have a question:

How can squid be told to leave a URL request such as
amazon
in, eg, netscape, to go on its way and become http://www.amazon.com ?
A thought would be to try something like

acl STRAIGHT urlpath_regex some_exp
no_cache deny STRAIGHT

but I can't say what some_exp should be
or if this would work anyway.

Has this been dealt before?
Thanks for any ideas.

PS
Sorry if this is a FAQ but I haven't found this issue mentioned anywhere.
