Squid for caching images only?

I've got a website getting about 30K page views per hour, each page with
a handfull of small images. What I'd like is to find a way to serve those
images via apache out of RAM instead of off disk. Will Squid do that?
If so is it worth doing for maybe 10-15 small images (even though the
get used ALOT)??
