The script was initially run at run-level 5 where there were lots of
processes running, but I also ran it at run-level 1 where only the shell
and basic kernel processes were running. It hangs at the same spot both
times.

The file-max is set to 4096 and the inode-max is set to 12288 when I
checked them in /proc/sys/fs. Would these have any affect on the
script?
