Problem starting Squid 2.3.STABLE3

i have downloaded the source of squid and compiled it without errors.
i did an squid -z to build the cache and it seemed to work, now i wanted to
start squid using
squid -D
and it dies after a few seconds, in /var/log/messages i get:

Jul 13 11:22:37 intra squid[6428]: Squid Parent: child process 6470 started
Jul 13 11:22:37 intra (squid): failed to find or read error text file.
Jul 13 11:22:37 intra squid[6428]: Squid Parent: child process 6470 exited
with status 1
Jul 13 11:22:37 intra squid[6428]: Exiting due to repeated, frequent
failures

what error text file does it mean? i have all error html files in
/etc/squid/error and put
error_directory /etc/squid/error/
in my squid.conf
so it cannot mean the htmlfiles.

Any help is appreciated
