[SQU] 2.2Stable4 crashing for last 6 months

  hello friends

i have installed squid2.2Stable 4 on around 10-12 boxes running RH
linux 6.1 , i have installed squid from RPMS ,

following are MY observations for all these boxes running squid2.2
Stable 4 on RedHat linux 6.1 ,

1> if i will make cache_dir size more then 1500-2000 Mb then squid gets
crashed once the cache is full (cache filled up 90-93 % ) it also gets
teribbly slow after filling up 90 % of assigned disk-space , if i will
define disk cache less then 1500 Mb then its works well , i have even tried
seperating disk cache > 2500 Mb on more then one physical disks ,
but its again behaving same way ( getting crashed once it will reach 90%
of disk space and getting very very slow ,

i have been observing this for more then 6 months , and didt have any
clue why this is happening

is there any bug in 2.2STable4 rpms version which is causing this
or
for bigger caches requires some tuning in squid.conf which i am keeping
default except few parameters like cache_dir/cache_mem

2> i also want some guidence about config of parent/sibling config

whats the major diff between this two diff config options for chaining
many caches together

which is more advantageous in terms of use of diskspace/responce time.

 thanks & regards
