Any basic TCP/IP networking book should cover DNS.

Domain Name System. The systems who mainly resolves site names to their
IP address (there are some other quite useful features also, like
indicating how mail should be routed and such..)

Yes. DNS data is cached in your local DNS server, and in Squid.
