Question relating to this:

in thsi setup would squid pass on the username and password to the end host,
so if they matched the user would authenticate to the chached host? I hope
it doesn't.

That's why squid is normally configured to not require any auth when being
used as a transparent proxy.

Now the but.... Some of the sites I "accelarate" require additional
login...
When we do that: squid also wants us to relogin, and then I am in a loop...

Did you edit src/Makefile like the following line:
DEFINES = -DAUTH_ON_ACCELERATION
then
make clean
make install
