Transparent proxy with Squid for httpsi just set this up not long ago. i would advise digging around the email archives for a few days ago with the subject: SSL Gatewaying. there is an SSL Gatewaying patch you can apply. download the already patched 2.5Devel package, download a src.rpm (since you are using RH linux) and look at the spec file so you can configure with similar parameters (dont forget to add --enable-ssl), make and install. should just replace your 2.3 stuff. setup https_port in your squid.conf and you should be good to go.

http://list.cineca.it/archives/squid.html is what i use to search the archives
http://list.cineca.it/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0102&L=squid&P=R17159 is what i used to download the CVS
http://list.cineca.it/cgi-bin/wa?S2=squid&q=SSL+Gatewaying&s=&f=&a=&b= is what you want to read about
