Hi,

Putting the squid in startup can be done by two ways

1.You can add it to the end of the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file
2.Write a shell script, Put it in the /etc/rc.d/ and add it to the runlevel
you want by using the command chkconfig

Are You using the External DNS? If So check the dns_children directive in
squid.conf

 Have the cron job

0 0 * * * /usr/local/squid/bin/squid -k logrotate

We are speaking above thinks for the linux.
